In America in the beginning, the performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the child prodigy category. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended families, these characteristics were a naturally. Maureen was born in this cosy haven, August 17, 1920. She was raised by her parents as well as family members. Marguerita LIlburn FitzSimons, her mother. She was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club in Ireland and ran a Dublin business. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed playing athletic games as a child and was a pro in athletics. This interest was combined with a natural talent for performance. In the end, she won the majority of the Feis Awards for dramatic and acting in her country of birth. At the age of 14, she was admitted to the prestigious Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater and operatic singing.
